Labour Councillor of Ashford Brendan Chilton argued that some polling had seen that voters were beginning to trust the Tories more than the Labour Party with the NHS. While on the Express.co.uk’s Brexit: The Final Countdown Mr Chilton told host Rebecca Hutson that voters were not buying into the ploy that Labour had an “emotional connection” with the NHS. The Brexiteer explained that the vast pledges to the NHS could appear overly complicated and unclear thus failing to win support.
He said: “Where the Tories are I think starting to steal the thunder from the Labour Party a little bit is because of the figures being used regarding the NHS are so enormous it is so difficult for ordinary people to conceive them.
“Not just ordinary people but even people in politics.
“When you look at the spending commitments and the Tories you are talking hundreds of billions of pounds and most people haven’t even seen what a thousand pounds looks like on a table
“So to talk about these huge figures is very difficult.
“The Labour Party has got this sort of deep nostalgic emotional attachment to the NHS that I don’t think any other party has with any other part of the public sector.
Jeremy Corbyn has come under fire recently due to his insistence that Boris Johnson is willing to sacrifice the NHS to get a good Brexit trade deal with the US.
Both Boris Johnson and Donald Trump have insisted that the NHS would not be part of any trade deal for the UK post-Brexit.
